Abney Park Paupers Graves

Abney Park Cemetery, London. Tightly packed paupers graves. These were actually one step up from a pauper’s pit where the poor or unclaimed bodies would be buried, often without an inscription plaque listing who was interred there. The price for one of these small headstones was around a shilling and for a further one penny you could have a name inscribed on it.
