Tombstone Tuesday - An interesting find

Click the picture for a larger version...But does anyone know what this epitaph may mean? It was just sitting there with nobody's name on it. The nearest grave was about five feet from it. The epitaph seems to have a hidden meaning. Of course I could just be fooling myself because I have no idea what it's intended meaning is. The part that gets me is "We have worn our white robes in defiance of the world in this the last travail." It keeps going through my mind every time I look at it. The stone is from Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, CA. Jeane has helped with the symbols but I'd still like to know if anyone has any ideas on the epitaph itself.

  3. What do the symbols mean? It might help to know the approx date too. What sticks out to me is "on this the second palm sunday". Like the VERY second one? Like 2000 years ago, second one? Or maybe this was erected by a church and it was their second palm sunday as a congregation?

It looks to me like a lot of references to Bible verses of promises - White robes/palms - Rev 7:9, 13, 14 - "After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?” I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."

Then the reference to having new bodies, that's Corinthians - being new in Christ, and elsewhere having glorified bodies at the resurrection.

Another from Revelation regarding the coming of Christ/the new heaven and earth, etc - "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Eve's Zerah may be a reference to this: "Zerah the Cushite, is an individual mentioned by the Book of Chronicles as having invaded the Kingdom of Judah with an enormous army, in the days of Asa. According to the text, when Zerah's army reached that of Asa at Zephathah, Zerah's army was utterly defeated, by divine intervention, and Asa's forces collected a large volume of spoils of war." Maybe not. That doesn't really fit "Eve's zerah came as our deliverer..."

Christ mark and being sealed - basically saved in Christ. And all over the Bible there's various verses of reigning forever with Jesus (Son of David).

    I'm lost on the "Ahraynay"...

It looks like a epitaph in celebration of eternal life in Jesus.
I would be interested to know who erected it, when it was erected, etc. Who is buried near it? Was this an old church burial ground?

It also creeps me out just a tad too....I dig the celebration of eternal life, but there's just a bit of extra-Biblical weirdness there also.
